The
Linux installation goes as
follows:
Here we explain the installation of N|VU with the Tarball built on
Linspire (Debian k2.4) gcc/g++ 2.95.4:
- First
we have to download a n|vu package from the nvu.com
site for Linux. Nvu.com has a couple of package for Linux, One for
LinSpire 4.5, a Fedora Core 2 tarball and a Tarball built on Linspire
(Debian k2.4) gcc/g++ 2.95.4,
which we are going to use
for our installation on a Mandrake 10 and a Knoppix 3.4 system click
the next link to get version
0.41 of n|vu. Or go to
the nvu.com
site to see what the
latest version of n|vu is and download it.
- After
downloading is complete, put the tarball in a
directory you like cp
-a nvu-0.41-pc-linux-gnu.tar.gz
destination-dir
the
destination-dir can be in your home dir or if you got the right in a
system directory say /usr/local/. Here we do a untar in our
home
dir.
- Untar
the tarball with : tar
-zxvf nvu-0.41-pc-linux-gnu.tar.gz
- The
file will extract in the subdirectory nvu-0.41
- Go
to the subdirectory
nvu-0.41
- Now
you can start nvu
by entering ./nvu
in a
terminal or you can make a shortcut on your desktop.
NOTES:
The above procedure works for the distribution Knoppix 3.4 but not for
Mandrake 10. If you try to start n|vu
on Mandrake you get the
a message that it could not find a library, you can solve this by
installing the library
libstdc++2.10-2.96-0.83mdk.i586.rpm
or
do
an urpmi
libstdc++2.10 in a
terminal as root user. You might even
think about installing (if you haven't already) the online urpmi
lists from the website http://urpmi.org/easyurpmi/index.php,
just follow
the instructions of the website.
If
you are running
Linspire,
download and install the latest Beta version
of Nvu from the CNR
Warehouse
with one-click by clicking
on the 1 Click Install graphic!
Installation
of
N|VU for Mandrake 10:
- The
first thing we have to do is to download the rpm-file
from the N|VU site, the file is called nvu-0.41-1mcnl.i586.rpm
- After
we recieved
the file, we can install it. Logon as root (or use a sudo user) in a
terminal session, or in a console.
- Go
to the download directory where you saved the Mandrake
rpm file.
- Enter
the following command and press enter: urpmi
nvu-0.41-1mcnl.i586.rpm
- Now
you can start nvu
by entering nvu
in a
terminal or you can make a shortcut on your desktop.
Mandrake
had put N|vu into their contrib-software list, so if you have your list
connected to the internet, update it with urpmi.update -a and do an
installation of nvu by entering the command urpmi nvu, it works for the cooker
list.
Note for SuSE users, in the
new SuSe (available at November 2004) N|VU is included into SuSE 9.2
Professional!
